Carmen and Emma started sailing in the optimist when they were 12 in their local waters in the Long Island Sound. Emma's most memorable regatta was at Belle Haven Regatta when she had just won her first sailing award. That was a major turning point for her because she realized she was improving and became aware that she really like competing. Carmen's most memorable regatta was the 2016 I420 North Americans. This regatta was the first time they finished within the top ten and PROVED to themselves that they could compete against the top sailors in windy conditions, even winning a race. Currently, they are training to qualify for the 2017 ISAF Youth Worlds and to compete in the 2017 Open and Junior Europeans during the summer. Carmen and Emma sail during the spring and fall in the Long Island Sound with light to medium breeze and small chop. In the winter, they train in Miami where they can find all ranges of wind conditions. Also, throughout the year, Carmen and Emma sail in several clinics in various locations.
